The Street Stop

It's about 9pm. You're 15, walking home along a main road with a friend. A divisional van pulls up ahead of you and two officers get out. One says there's been a report of someone tagging a shopfront roller door about ten minutes ago, and that the description sounds like you.

What you’ll practise

  • When you have to give your name and address
  • What you do and don't have to answer
  • Whether you're being held, or free to go

Before you start

This scenario involves police contact over an allegation of criminal damage (graffiti), a request to search a bag, and — on one path — arrest and a police interview. No violence is depicted and no injuries are described. Nothing in this scenario establishes that you did anything.
